Health Care Administrative Simplification: The New Minnesota Standards
David K. Haugen
has over twenty years professional experience in health care and health insurance policy, planning, and purchasing. He is currently the Director of the Center for Health Care Purchasing Improvement, a unit of the Minnesota Department of Health, where he serves as a project manager for rulemaking for standard, electronic exchanges of health care administrative transactions.
As a result of a law passed in 2007, Minnesota is the first state in the nation to require all health care providers and group purchasers (payers) to exchange three common health care administrative transactions electronically, using a standard data format and content, effective in 2009. Learn more about Minnesota’s nation-leading efforts in setting standards to reduce health care administrative burdens and cost, how the law is being implemented, what it means for providers, how to be involved and steps needed to become compliant.
