The Fundamentals of Chiropractic

Dr. Joseph Sweere

If you were to give a twenty-question quiz on to subject of chiropractic to the average family physician, do you believe he or she would pass?

So, the question for all of us to consider is: “But how would they know? Where and how would they have learned about chiropractic?”

The Fundamentals of ChiropracticObviously, MD’s didn’t learn about chiropractic in elementary, junior high, high school, college or medical school. And one could probably make the same assumption about the training for dentists, nurses, podiatrists, optometrists, psychologists, pharmacists, physical and occupational therapists, athletic trainers, etc.…all the various professionals who people go to for care and advice about their health. How would they know about chiropractic? Unless they have had a positive personal experience, the probability of their having an ability to appropriately counsel their patients about chiropractic, seems quite unlikely.

Would this not be true regarding other members of the “helping community” – those professionals who serve the public in a variety of ways that may have an indirect effect on health-related matter? Consider attorneys, social workers, clergy, teachers, coaches, human resource directors, accountants, vocational counsellors, elected officials, etc. Do you think that the majority of these highly trained people would be able to pass the twenty-question quiz?

Common sense would suggest that in the interest of reducing and preventing immeasurable amounts of unnecessary human suffering, the chiropractic profession has a moral and social obligation to share its story. Clearly, our exciting story of hope and caring needs to be told, and we surely can’t expect anyone else to do this for us.

Science, Art, and philosophyIt was for this reason that I have assembled a comprehensive power-point slide program created to provide DC’s with an educational resource that conveys our chiropractic message in a manner that is visually persuasive and readily understood. Having provided this information at a variety of public-health forums and conferences, I consistently have had medical doctors and other professionals approach me and express with gratitude, “I had no idea – now I finally understand what chiropractic is all about”.

The Fundamentals of Chiropractic power-point slide program is available through the cooperation of the Minnesota Chiropractic Association and the International Academy of Chiropractic Occupational Health Consultants (IACOHC).  All proceeds from the sale of the program will be shared by the MCA and the IACOHC, both serving as non-profit organizations working on behalf of your profession.

The complete set contains 235 slides, and is available for $125. The program includes an Introduction followed by Parts I, II and III. The program is designed so that it can be personalized by the presenter, either by adding or subtracting slides (copy and paste) to tailor the program to most appropriately fit the specific audience and length of the presentation.
